Glock 17 80 Percent - Let's go ahead and unpack this. If you are reading this to see if building a Polymer 80 Glock is easy then let me answer you now. Yes it is. It's very easy to do, and I think anyone can do it. Polymer 80 Glocks are very easy to build and the one I'm looking at right now was built with an 80 bottom jig, a Dremel and a hand drill. Took a few hours, plus some sanding but now it runs like a champ. If you're on the fence, just take the plunge and do it.

Now that we've gotten a few fence sitters out of the way, let's move on and talk about the Polymer 80 Glock I built and give a quick review. The PF940V2 is a fully loaded model that uses a Glock 17, 22, 34, 24, 35, 31 or 17L slide. Most of us will probably build a Glock 17 or 34. I went with the 17. Selling on Rockey Brass!

Glock 17 80 Percent

Polymer 80 Glocks use Gen 3 parts, which are common and easy to find. I went with a Larry Vickers special edition Glock 17 slide, a Bear Creek Arsenal box and a Glock OEM lower parts box. The Glock stock includes a long magazine opening and slide.

I think the Poly 80 frame is better than the Glock OEM frame in many ways. He has no fingers, which is amazing. It uses the 1911 19-degree grip angle versus the Glock's 22-degree grip, which feels more comfortable and natural to me. A real Picatinny rail is the opposite of Glock's odd system. The back of the gun also has a beavertail that you don't get with the OEM Glock stock. The PF940V2 is an American Glock.

As you can see America is better. All these minor changes make the Glock more ergonomic and comfortable. The Polymer80 grip angle is more comfortable for me, but it's still true. It's more common, but if you've been after a Glock for years, it might sound strange to you.

One thing I like about the Polymer80 Glock is the addition of the beavertail. One problem I have with Glocks is slide bite. If I hold the gun well and hide the slide, it will bite me with every round until the skin breaks. The Polymer 80 cartridge does not provide the same soft bite. The extra beaver tail protects you from that, as well as giving you more leverage to combat nose lift.

When the gun is running properly, you will not see any significant difference in accuracy with the Polymer 80. Shooting accuracy cannot be changed. The gun is more comfortable to shoot and easier to maintain. I think the Polymer 80 has addressed most of the criticisms Glock has received. Glock has also eliminated fingerprints on the latest generation of Glock pistols.

Gst 9: Mod1, Pistol Frame

The downside to going with a custom frame is the aftermarket. You lose comparisons with different holsters and different accessories. Some internal components such as triggers are always appropriate. But things like magwells aren't ideal.

The other side is trust. You have to ask yourself are you confident in your skills as a gunsmith? I am not private. I don't use my Polymer80 Glock as a defensive gun unless I have to. Although I have never encountered reliability issues, I would like an OEM Glock pistol for defensive use. The good news is you can buy a complete Poly 80 frame but it requires an FFL exchange on top of all the parts you need to assemble the gun.

The Polymer80 Glock is a fun project, and you can make your own gun. For me this is just a project. For some, it may be the easiest way to acquire a handgun. With other state laws making it harder and harder to buy a handgun, the only option is to build your own. If you're under 21, you can't buy a gun at a gun store, but there's no federal law that prevents you from building your own. Of course, check your state's laws.
